A Celestial Celebration

Forty-five students were the stars of the show at the 30th annual Students of Character Celebration, held virtually on Wednesday, April 14, 2021.

Also making a stellar impression was the record $27,000 given in scholarships to the honorees, along with several door prizes.

Sourcewell took to Facebook Live to honor students from 23 high schools in Cass, Crow Wing, Morrison, Todd, and Wadena counties at the virtual recognition event. The Students of Character Celebration is held each year to recognize students who are quiet, behind-the-scenes leaders and may otherwise be overlooked for recognition.

"Many of the students we will recognize tonight are no strangers to adversity and adapting to change," said Sourcewell Executive Director and CEO Dr. Chad Coauette. "They've risen above the discomfort and inconvenience of change and loss. And regardless of what life has thrown at them, they've come out stronger and wiser."

Recorded earlier and at separate times, the educators who nominated each student were interviewed and shared why their student was deserving of the recognition.

Each student was awarded a $600 scholarship thanks to the generosity of area businesses, organizations, and individuals. Ten students with plans to attend Central Lakes College after graduation received a $500 scholarship from the CLC Foundation. All students had a chance to win door prizes, also provided via donations.
