Productivity losses linked to absenteeism cost employers $225.8 billion annually in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control. Even more, according to the Harvard Business Review, more employees are coming to work when they are sick – costing employers about $150 billion to $250 billion each year.

Working toward a solution for members throughout the country, Sourcewell added a Population Health Management category to its diverse line of contracts. ActiveHealth Management and Virgin Pulse work with organizations to promote wellness with health engagement platforms, lifestyle coaching, as well as assessment and integration tools.

Sourcewell Manager of Insurance and Risk Management Ryan Donovan says this category was created to help control health care costs, improve business performance, build culture, and integrate and optimize benefits and human resources investments.

“Sourcewell has procured contracts with best-in-class vendors to provide members with tools that enable them to live healthier lives,” Donovan explains. “These tools can connect people to disease management solutions and provide tailored programs, coaching, and digital tools to engage and empower them to strive to be the best version of themselves.”

Sourcewell (formerly NJPA), a cooperative purchasing organization, awarded these contracts following a competitive solicitation process:

ActiveHealth Management, named a vendor in this category, will provide members health and wellness assessment and coaching, lifestyle and chronic condition programs, health engagement platforms, biometric screenings, personalized member communications, and more.

Virgin Pulse, also named a vendor in this category, will provide members onsite services including coaching program management, incentive program design/management/fulfillment, social and wellness challenges for individuals/teams/organizations, health and well-being content, and more.

Effective October 25, 2018, these contracts are available to all Sourcewell members throughout the United States and Canada. Purchasers from public entities save time and money by streamlining the procurement process with cooperative purchasing.
