What is the Census? And Why Should I Care?

Sourcewell to host virtual and in-person information sessions

What is the Census? Why should I care? What can I do to help? Join the conversation virtually or in-person during a two-part, one-day workshop January 17.

Preparing for the 2020 Census will be held at Sourcewell in Staples, as well as online for participants who choose to attend virtually. From 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., focus will be placed on Census 101: What is the Census (and why should I care)? During this half-day portion, participants will learn basic information about the Census, what it's used for, how it impacts individuals, local, and state government.

From 1-3:30 p.m., the second half of the workshop will focus on Census 102: Strategies for Effective Census Outreach. Participants will continue the learning with this afternoon session designed for those who have completed the morning's Census 101 session, or those who have done the 2018 census prep workshop and are interested in ensuring a fair and accurate count.

This session builds upon information shared in prior census prep workshops and the Census 101 session above. You will leave with best practices, data tools, and concrete strategies you can use to promote a complete and accurate 2020 Census.

Both morning and afternoon sessions will be presented by Susan Brower, Minnesota State Demographer from the Minnesota State Demographic Center.

Attendees may attend one or both sessions in-person at Sourcewell or participate virtually via a livestream. Please choose appropriately at registration. Lunch will be provided. There is no cost to attend, however preregistration by January 10 is required and can be done at sourcewell.co/Census.
